Last year, when we were in Singapore for the Stone Roses concert, we stayed for 3D2N, the first night in Oasia Hotel and the following night we moved to Grand Park City Hall closer to the city. Grand Park City Hall is part of the Park Hotel Group, and is a 10-storey luxury 5-star hotel. The rates we got online was actually very good (S$230++ for superior room) and those who book online will also get a free upgrade to the next higher room category. The location is also ideal for getting around via MRT, as the nearest MRT station (City Hall) is only 3 mins walk away. That means that it is only very close to our chosen lunch venue, JAAN.
The first impression we got of the hotel was very good. The hotel entrance and lobby area looks grand, with an ornate chandelier and shiny marble flooring. Check-in was prompt and we were told that we were upgraded to the Crystal Club Superior Room (9th floor).
The Crystal Club Superior Rooms are 28-30 sqm with classic tones of brown and gold. To be honest, the rooms was rather dated and not what I expected of a 5-star hotel. There is a 32" LCD TV, coffee/tea making facilities and work desk. Complimentary wifi is available at hotel lobby.
There is a complimentary bus shuttle which connects to Orchard Road, we actually hopped onto this the next morning and got a "tour" of Singapore city.
The award-winning Spa Park Asia offers a variety of Asian-inspired treatments. There is also an outdoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi, but we did not have time to visit.
Verdict: Close proximity to Singapore city centre and within walking distance to the MRT.
Room rate: S$230++ for superior room, with free upgrade to next room category if booked via hotel website.
