Hotel Review: Westin Executive Club Room @ The Westin Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Staycations in the city are great for short weekend breaks - there is no need to worry about being stuck in traffic jam and you also can spend more time at your destination. Recently, during the Deepavali break, we had a 2D/1N staycation at The Westin Kuala Lumpur to experience the Westin Weekend, designed for guests to make the most out of their weekend getaway.

Guests can personalize their weekend experience with late 3pm Sunday check-out, extended breakfast hours all weekend and more. It focuses on inspiring well-being, from a good night’s sleep on the Heavenly Bed and SuperFoodsRX dining options to convenient exercise through the RunWESTIN and New Balance gear-lending programs.

Westin Executive Club Lounge

The Westin KL boasts 443 guest rooms and suites with five signature restaurants and is located in the midst of the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, adjacent to shopping malls such as Starhill Gallery and Pavilion KL. We were booked in to the Westin Executive Club Room for our stay. Check-in for Westin Executive Club Room guests is in the Westin Executive Club Lounge on level 3.

Westin Executive Club Rooms are located between Level 31-35. The room is spacious (452 sq ft/42 sq m) and well-appointed with contemporary decor. The signature Westin Heavenly Bed sits in the centre of the room, where a comfortable night's sleep awaits us. With ten layers of comfort, this bed is designed for a deep, undisturbed sleep that energizes both body and brain.

There is also a working desk area, separate chaise lounge and a 40-inch flat screen TV with a DVD/CD player. There is a coffee/tea making facility as a well stocked mini-bar and four complimentary bottles of water per room. For this room category, there is also complimentary Wifi access.

We were well impressed with the "super welcome platter" in our room, filled with shot glasses of SuperFoodsRX such as blueberries, dark chocolate, raspberries and pomegranates.  Our kids were so excited when they saw it as it contained many of their favorite healthy snacks.

Kids loved the welcome platter

The marble bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and separate glass shower stocked with White Tea by Westin™ bath amenities, two plush bathrobes and pairs of slippers.

The Westin Kids Club located on Level 4 is absolutely fantastic - very well-equipped with toys, slides, playstations as well as many engaging activities for kids such as drawing, crafts and coloring. It is open from 9am to 7pm daily to children from age 2-12. There is a fee of RM20 for first hour, and RM15 for subsequent hours though I believe some room categories have this includes in their room rates. It was raining on our day of arrival, so this was a really wonderful place for our kids to spend their day and they absolutely loved it here. They returned again the next day as they just couldn't get enough of this place. Baby D loved the train set as well as the slides and playing house and Baby C participated in the crafts as well as PlayDoh.

Located on the same level is the WestinWORKOUT® Gym with a wide choice of treadmills and stationary bikes for heart-pumping cardio, or strength machines and free weights for toning up. There are also complimentary yoga class or cardio circuit aerobics classes. You may also schedule a session with a personal trainer. There is also a sauna in both men's and women's locker areas.

Guests staying in Westin Executive Club Room and above has complimentary access to the exclusive Club Lounge located on Level 3. It is open daily from 6am and 11pm. I like the relaxing ambiance in this modern and elegant space. Guests can have American hot breakfast, afternoon high tea, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks as refreshments throughout the day as well as unwind in the evenings here with a selection of hors d'oeuvres, spirits and wines.

Help yourself to the spirits during Cocktail Hour in the Club Lounge :)

The hotel offers varied dining options, from Chinese (Five 5enses), to Latin American (Qba), to Italian (Prego) to an International buffet (The Living Room). We had our dinner at The Living Room whereby we tried our their famous weekend seafood buffet, Ocean's 11. It is priced at RM128++ per person (food only) and is available Fri-Sat from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. Expect to find 11 seafood flavours from the grill, 11 seafood salads, 11 types of seafood paste and more.

I really enjoyed the selection of local food here, my favorites being the siput sedut masak lemak cili api, sambal sotong and Penang stir fried chilli crab. We were also invited to sample the Hibiscus Rules 1907 mocktail by their award-winning mixologist - a really nice drink comprising roselle, melon and mixed berries.

With the Westin Weekend, we had the option of having breakfast at Five 5enses, The Living Room, in-room dining or the Club Lounge. We decided to try out their newly launched breakfast at Five 5enses which includes dim sum items, continental breakfast, Teochew porridge, and wantan noodles. One of the best things about breakfast here is that they serve pork bacon, in its crispy glory. I did not think much of the steamed dim sums, but the deep fried items such as ham tsui kok is good.

Since it was a gorgeous day after breakfast, we decided to visit the pool. There is a children's pool as well as adult's pool here. Cold water is provided by the pool for hotel guests. Service overall throughout our stay is excellent - staff are friendly and efficient.

Verdict: Family-friendly hotel within close promixity of the shopping haven.

Westin Executive Club Room rates start from RM750++.  We stayed here as guests of The Westin KL.
