Baba Low's 486, Lorong Kurau, Bangsar, KL

Now that Hubby is a converted laksa lover, we get to try new places that serve laksa such as Baba Low's 486. Baba Low's is an eatery serving Malaccan-Peranakan cuisine located in the middle of a housing area in Bangsar. The interior is simple with lots of natural lighting.

Since it was a hot afternoon, we both ordered a cendol (RM4.50) each to quench our thirst. This was good, with ample amounts of coconut milk and gula melaka to go with the ice shavings, strands of cendol and red bean.

One of the specialities here is the traditional Malacca nyonya laksa (RM6.50). This arrived within 5 minutes of us placing our order. Attractively presented, this bowl of nyonya laksa ticked the right boxes. Rich, creamy broth (not too spicy) with your choice of noodles (meehoon, mee or kuay teow), tau pok (tofu puff), hard boiled egg, beansprouts, cockles, prawns and julienned cucumber. I kept stealing sips of the delicious broth from Hubby's bowl of nyonya laksa.

I love mee siam. Baba Low's mee siam (RM5.50) was good - moist, slightly spicy/sour vermicelli with hard boiled egg, shredded omelette, fishcake slices, fried shallots, julienned cucumber and a dollop of sambal paste.

We also ordered the Popiah Peranakan (RM4.50) and Pai Tee (RM5.50) to share. Love the popiah, filled with beansprouts, turnip, omelette strips, cucumber and fried shallots. Is it the norm for this type of popiah to have thicker skin? The pai tee was pretty good, though the best one we've eaten recently are still from Top Hat as their pai tee shells are crispier. The shells are filled to the brim with turnip, fried shallots, julienned cucumber and omelette.

A great afternoon feast!

Verdict: A satisfying lunch, with delicious food at very reasonable prices.
