Hotel Review: Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, Malaysia

"Kids, we're going camping at the hotel!".

We were heading to Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, one of KL's newest and trendiest hotel to experience Camp Aloft. Camp Aloft is a new concept at the hotel designed for kids, whereby a kid-tastic adventure awaits them. Kids are given their own "tent" as well as Aloft's bed-in-a-bag and special treats (in accordance to the age and gender of your child).

Staycation at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral

Families with children booked into the hotel will be able to experience Camp Aloft - the hotel staff will make necessary arrangements in your room prior to your arrival. Check-in was a breeze and we headed up to our hotel room - Loft Room.  In the elevator, music videos are played on the screen and our kids danced to Bruno Mars "Treasure".

The room is 33 sqm with a king size bed, 42" LCD TV, and a working desk.  A piece of quirky artwork that highlight local Malaysian culture hangs above the bed - ours had something to do with the Mat Salleh and their durability to durians. The bathroom is fitted with an oversized shower head complete with pumps filled with Bliss spa products. Opposite the bathroom/toilet is a compact space for coffee/tea making facilities, bathrobes and a safe. Complimentary wi-fi is available throughout the hotel.

With Camp Aloft, 2 blow-up mattresses were placed in our room to accommodate our two children with gender appropriate bedsheets. A small tent was placed in the corner of the room with some plastic balls and card games. The kids sure had fun playing inside the tent.

A treat in the form of a lollipop was sent up to our room before bedtime.

Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral is located right next to KL Sentral train station which connects to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in just 28 minutes, making this an ideal location for travellers and businessmen.  You can also catch the LRT or KTM Komuter to various locations in KL - we took the Komuter from KL Sentral to Midvalley for a spot of shopping with the kids.

NOOK is the all-day dining restaurant for the hotel. We had most of our meals here, and they have a very good variety of International and Asian cuisine. Will blog about it in a separate post.

Breakfast is served buffet-style in NOOK between 6.30am to10.30am daily.Choose from the likes of Sarawak laksa, doughnuts, muesli, yogurts, roti canai, muffins, mee goreng, croissants and fresh fruits. I like the way they served their fruits in plastic bags, very Malaysian. Smitten by the Sarawak laksa that we tried from their MIGF menu, I decided to try the Sarawak laksa during breakfast and the broth was just as good. Even the kids enjoyed eating it. Do not miss their signature teh tarik, served in cute baby bottles.

You can also get light bites and drinks/cocktails at w xyz bar. In the lobby, there is also a re:mix lounge to just chill. There is also a Wii dance machine at the lobby.

What I like about Aloft KL is that it is a family-friendly hotel. When we visited w xyz bar in the afternoon for some ice cream, the staff said "yeah, we have free ice creams for kids!". Oh man, wish I was kid too. Anyway the kids thought it was funny that they could get ice cream and mummy and daddy could only watch them eat. Oh well. Whatever keeps them happy :)

At each table, there are also tabletopics cards... for families, couples, to get the conversation going (and ditch your smartphones for a bit). I like how they serve their tidbits in small cute plastic containers. There are also games, and we got addicted to the "Colour Block" Jenga game. After a few tries, our kids became experts of the game and we ended up playing for more than an hour and then again after dinner.

Had lots of fun playing this "colored Jenga"

Watching other guests play a game of pool. There is also live music here on certain evenings

There is a re:fuel shop right next to the check-in counter, a 24-hour stop for snacks in case hunger strikes. You can also stop here for a game of chess if you like.

Mai Bar, located on the 30th Floor is the place to go to party the night away and to grab some good cocktails. Our stay coincided with the Hed Kandi party happening at Mai Bar. We were up at the swimming pool when the DJs started spinning the records.

There are 2 saltwater swimming pools in the hotel - an infinity pool with a view of the KL skyline and a kids pool in the corner. We loved the pool area, splashing around and then relaxing to the nice view.
