Great steaks @ Gobo Upstairs Lounge & Grill, Traders Hotel KL

What is your favorite food? The other day, we were playing a guessing game whereby the kids had to guess mummy and daddy's favorite food based on their daily observations. After a few guesses, we concluded that daddy's favorite food is beef, or more accurately steaks. (Can you guess what is mine?)

Give my man a good steak, and he will be happy. A couple of weeks ago,  he had the pleasure of devouring the delicious Nolan Private Selection T-Bone Steak at Gobo Upstairs Lounge & Grill.

Gobo Upstairs have an open kitchen so we watched as the chefs grill our steaks.

To start, we had half a dozen of fresh Pacific oysters (RM50) as well as lobster bisque (RM26). Oysters were fresh, and I love the rich and flavorful lobster bisque. It is served with a touch of vanilla oil and topped with lobster ragout.

When dining in a steak restaurant, it is never an easy task to choose "the right steak". Hubby asked to speak to the chef to enquire more about the Nolan Private Selection steaks listed on the menu. The sous chef gladly came out to speak to us, and when asked what breed it is, he said "Aberdeen Angus...." and before he could finish his sentence, Hubby replied "SOLD!".

Nolan Private Selection (NPS) is a wholly Australian, family-owned butchery company and according to the chef, the NPS steaks they are serving at Gobo Upstairs is the Aberdeen Angus breed. So far, this is the first time we have come across Aberdeen Angus in KL (usually it is Australian Black Angus).

Between the prime rib and T-bone steak, Hubby chose the latter upon chef's recommendation.  A massive chunk of meat which was nicely grilled, no idea how Hubby managed to finish it all but he did and he had high praises for it. Flavorful and a real man's meat.

We were keen to try the Mayura full-blood Wagyu but it was not available that evening. So, we went for the Kobe cuisine Wagyu striploin with a marbling score 6 (RM135 for 200g). Well-seasoned and perfectly cooked to medium as requested, I really loved how tender the striploin was - my kind of meat for sure! All meat mains served with baked tomato and onion relish.

Our fellow diner had the specials of the month, milk fed lamb rack (RM98) with sweet smoked paprika "modern navarin" style with vegetables and lamb jus.

We ordered some side dishes to try - truffle mashed potatoes, crispy onion rings, wilted baby spinach with garlic chips and creamy baby french beans with garlic. Priced at RM14 each. Not crazy about the onion rings, but everything else went well with the steaks.

After dinner at Gobo Upstairs, we headed upstairs to Sky Bar for some live music (and dancing) while enjoying a bottle of Pinot Grigio.
